Unter diesem Motto starten wir das “Eine Million Hoffnungsbäume-Projekt” in Kamerun
Die große Auswahl an afrikanischen Tropenhölzern ist für den Kontinent kein Segen – eher eine Belastung. Über 90% seiner großen zusammenhängenden Urwälder sind verloren gegangen. Außerhalb vom Kongobecken, gibt es noch kaum Urwälder in Westafrika. Die Lage in Kamerun ist dramatisch. Riesige Ölpalmplantagen entstehen. Dafür müssen artenreicher Regenwald Platz frei machen. Dauernd fahren LKWs mit Holz Richtung Hafen in Douala für den Export. Mit Holzexporten soll der hochverschuldete Staat saniert werden. Schon jetzt ist Kamerun der größte Holzexporteur Afrikas. Eine nachhaltige Forstwirtschaft gibt es nicht. Die weit verbreitete Korruption ermöglicht den Übergang zur nachhaltigen Forstwirtschaft nicht. Zu unterschiedlich sind die Interessen von der Holzindustrie, dem Staat, der Militär und der lokalen Elite. Die Vernichtung des Ökosystems Regenwald schreitet deshalb unverändert fort.
Tiere sind gestrandet, Pflanzenarten wurden zerstört, tausende von Ureinwohner sind heimatlos, die Wilderei nimmt zu.
Aber selbst ohne die Großen der Holzindustrie, sind die Wälder von den Lokalen Bevölkerung bedroht. Sie brauchen auch Holz für die Möbelherstellung und vor allem Brennholz zum Kochen. Über 80% der Menschen in Kamerun kochen mit Brennholz. Das sehr schnelle Bevölkerungswachstum drängt jetzt zum Handeln auf. Aber pflanzen von Bäumen gehört nicht zu den Dingen, an die die meisten Menschen in Kamerun denken.
Umweltschutz ist noch kein großes Thema. Daher wollen wir mit diesem Eine Million Hoffnungsbäume Projekt in Kamerun gegensteuern.
Das “Eine Million Hoffnungsbäume Projekt” soll bei der Bekämpfung der Auswirkungen des Klimawandels eine zentrale Rolle spielen. Doch die Bäume sollen nicht nur CO2 aufnehmen, sondern Schatten spenden mit denen landwirtschaftliche Produkte angebaut werden. Die erfolgreiche Umsetzung dieses Projekts kommt der Umwelt und der lokalen Wirtschaft Zugute. Das Eine Million Hoffnungsbäume Projekt soll zeigen, dass Umweltschutz und Wirtschaftlichkeit keine Gegensätze sind. Das Gesamtkonzept besteht aus Nutz- und Schattenbäumen. Die Schattenpflanzen gedeihen prächtig in Gemeinschaft mit anderen Bäumen, die ihr Schatten und Nährstoffe spenden. Dies trägt wesentlich zur Biodiversifizierung der Pflanzung bei. Obstbäume sollen zusätzlich zu einer besseren Ernährung und als einer zusätzlichen Einkommensquelle der Bauernfamilien beitragen.
Denn, wir wollen den Menschen nicht verbieten, Bäume für die Möbelherstellung, zum Kochen, als Baummaterial für Hütten und Werkzeuge zu nutzen. Stattdessen werden wir auf Nachhaltigkeit setzen und Alternative zeigen. Da aber gerade in diesen Regionen die Nachfrage nach Holz in hohem Maße steigt, muss in Zukunft auch hier das Holz aus gepflanzten Forsten kommen.
Aber Bäume zu pflanzen ist nur die eine Seite der Medaille. Wichtig bei dem Gebrauch von Brennholz zum Kochen ist Effizienz der Kochstelle. Häufig besteht dies nur aus drei mittelgroße Steine, die sonst völlig offen sind. Damit wird über 40% der Brennholzenergie verschwendet. Das Ziel muss es sein, diese Energie zu nutzen und damit weniger Bäume zum Kochen zu gebrauchen. Gegen eine gewisse Eigenleistung, werden wir Haushalten kleine und effiziente Lehmoffen zur Verfügung stellen. Ein Lehmofen kostet ca. 20€.
Die Nachhaltigkeit – Wir setzen nicht auf Monokulturen, sondern pflanzen viele unterschiedliche Baumarten (Holz und Obstbäume). Aus Umwelt und wirtschaftlicher Sicht ist das Modell stabil. Unser Fokus liegt auf folgende Baumpflanzen: Moringabaum, Bambus, Eukalytus, Jatropha, Kiribaum, Mango, Avocado, Kakao, Papaya, Kirsch und Orange. Wichtig für den Erfolg und einen Verhaltensänderung ist die Aufklärung – besonders bei den Kindern. Die sollen die Botschaft des Projekts in die Elternhäuser hinein tragen. Daher werden wir Aufklärungsarbeiten verstärkt in Schulen organisieren.
Die Baumschule
Eine Baumschule wird der Mittelpunkt dieses Projekts stellen. In dieser Baumschule werden Setzlinge für das 1.000.000 Baumprojekt angezogen.
Die Baumschule sollte auch als ein Bildungs- und Ausbildungszentrum für Umweltthemen dienen.

Unternehmen aus dem Bereichen: Möbel, Reisetransport, Automobil, Luftverkehr, Logistik, Konsumgüter, Hotel, Energie sind ganz besonders vom Schutz der Umwelt angewiesen. So können sich diese Unternehmen sowohl bei dem Aufforstung als auch beim Erhalt der Bäum sich beteiligen. So kann zum Beispiel ein Unternehmen zunächst mit je 5€ / Mitarbeiter, soviel Bäume spenden, wie es Mitarbeiter hat. Damit stärken sie nicht nur die Bindung der Mitarbeiter im Unternehmen und damit derer Motivation, sondern sie können Image von den Wettbewerbern positiv abheben. Insbesondere Unternehmen aus dem Mittelstand sind davon betroffen. Eine Studie der Managementberatung Biesalski & Company für die WirtschaftsWoche belegt, dass Unternehmen mit einem grünen Image und einer verantwortungsvollen Unternehmensausrichtung rund fünf Prozent mehr zum Umsatz machen. Einen besseren Beweis, dass Nachhaltigkeit zu einem wichtigen Wertschöpfungsfaktor geworden ist, gibt es nicht. Aber ganz praktisch gefragt wer würde lieber bei einem Unternehmen kaufen, der als Umweltkiller bekannt ist als bei dem, das als Umweltschützer gilt

1,000,000 trees for Cameroon “Anyone can dig a hole and plant a tree, you don’t even need a diploma for that.” Wangari Maathai, deceased Nobel Peace Prize winner from Kenya Under this motto we are starting the 1,000,000 tree project in Cameroon The large selection of African tropical woods is not a blessing for the continent – rather a burden. Over 90% of its large contiguous primeval forests have been lost. Outside of the Congo Basin, there are hardly any primeval forests in West Africa. The situation in Cameroon is dramatic. Huge oil palm plantations are created. Species-rich rainforests have to make room for this. Trucks with wood are constantly driving towards the port in Douala for export.
The highly indebted state is to be rehabilitated with timber exports. Cameroon is already Africa’s largest timber exporter. Sustainable forestry does not exist. Widespread corruption does not allow the transition to sustainable forestry. The interests of the timber industry, the state, the military and the local elite are too different. The destruction of the rainforest ecosystem therefore continues unabated. Animals are stranded, plant species have been destroyed, thousands of indigenous people are homeless and poaching is on the rise. But even without the lumber industry giants, the forests are under threat from local people. You also need wood for furniture making and, most importantly, firewood for cooking. Over 80% of the people of Cameroon cook with firewood. The very rapid population growth now urges action. But planting trees is not what most people think about in Cameroon. Environmental protection is not yet a big issue. Therefore we want to counteract 1,000,000 reforestation projects in Cameroon with this environmental protection project. The 1,000,000 tree project aims to play a key role in combating the effects of climate change. But the trees should not only absorb CO2, but also provide shade with which agricultural products can be grown. The successful implementation of this project benefits the environment and the local economy. The 1,000,000th afforestation project is intended to show that environmental protection and economic efficiency are not opposites. The overall concept consists of useful and shade trees. The shade plants thrive in community with other trees that provide shade and nutrients. This contributes significantly to the biodiversification of the plantation.
